Dr. Nishikant Vinayak Deshpande, graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the year 1973. He earned his Ph.D. in the area of IC Engines in 1998. He has worked for 11 years in industries and joined VNIT Nagpur in 1984, as workshop superintendent. He held different positions such as Professor, Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dean Research and Development, Dean Administration at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur Maharashtra India. He was Director of Walchand College of Engineering, Sangali. Since Sept. 8, 2011, he is Director, National Institute of Technology Silchar, an institute of National importance, for 5 years tenure. During his 27 years of teaching, research and administrative experience, he has taught most of the subjects in mechanical engineering. He has guided number of M.Tech. projects and 7 Doctoral students. Currently, 4 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D. under him.
